Williams Posts Personal-Best Time

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University track and field runner Kelly Williams placed second with a personal-best time in the mile Saturday at the Columbia Last Chance meet in New York, N.Y.

Williams’ time of 4:36.77 is almost two seconds faster than her previous personal best and currently ranks No. 17 in the country. The time is also ranked No. 3 in the mile in WVU program history.

“Kelly smashed her best time. She was the first collegiate across the line and this performance moves her up on the national list and lands her in the run to make the NCAA Indoor Championships,” coach Sean Cleary says. “We feel very fortunate that she regained enough strength off of her sickness through the Big 12 Championships to be able to come here.”

Athletes will declare tomorrow for which events they choose to compete in at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Mar. 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark. The top 16 times in each individual event will be released Monday night.
