MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University track and field team travels to Ames, Iowa, for the Big 12 Indoor Championship, Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, March 1.
The action begins Friday as the women begin the championship at 11 a.m., with the 60-meter hurdles. Day one concludes with the men’s distance medley relay at 10 p.m.
Day two is kicked off Saturday at noon, with the men’s 60-meter hurdles, and concludes after the 4x400 meter relay winners have been announced at 6:25 p.m.
All times are Eastern and subject to change.
“As we arrive for this meet, we are looking forward to seeing how many of the girls can improve on their best performances of the year,” says coach Sean Cleary. “Our goal this winter was to put as many in position for Big 12 Honors as we could, without neglecting our bigger goal of the outdoor season.”
Many Mountaineers will be looking to improve on their finishes in WVU’s inaugural appearance in the Big 12 Indoor Championships a year ago.
Sophomore Kelly Williams
finished fourth in the mile, and senior Stormy Nesbit
placed eighth in the long jump a year ago. Day one of the championship last season saw eight personal-best marks by Mountaineers.
“I feel confident that we can return home with five or six of these awards. I want us to take advantage of this opportunity as a springboard to the outdoor season,” Cleary says. “I want us to compete hard and return home hungry for May and June.”
