Wrestling: WVU Falls to OhioBy Scott Castleman for MSNsportsNET.com February 9, 2007 MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University wrestling team fell to Ohio, 22-16, in a close dual meet on Friday, Feb. 7, at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va. The Mountaineers’ biggest loss of the dual occurred before it even began when All-America wrestler Brandon Rader (141) was ruled out due to illness. Without him, WVU (3-4) lost the first three bouts of the evening at 125, 133 and 141-pounds. Although West Virginia was able to win five of the final seven bouts, bonus points given up in the 125, 141 and 165-pound weight classes, including two pins, allowed the Bobcats (16-6) to escape victorious. “Tonight was a hard-fought match but down the line we gave up too many bonus points early,” said head coach Craig Turnbull. “We put too much pressure on the bottom half of our line-up and I think if we don’t do that we have a good shot of winning.” David Jauregui (149), Zac Fryling (157), Kurt Brenner (174), Chance Litton (184) and Jared Villers (197) all claimed victories for the Mountaineers. Jauregui provided the biggest win of the evening for his team, an 18-9 victory over Clay Tucker. WVU will look to rebound on Sunday, Feb. 11, when it travels to Lock Haven, Pa., to face EWL foe Lock Haven at 2 p.m. DUAL RESULTS 125: Seth Morton (OU) MAJOR Scott Stuart (WVU), 9-0 |
