MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Six West Virginia University women’s soccer players and Head Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown were honored by Soccer Buzz today. Six Mountaineers were named to Mid-Atlantic all-region teams and Izzo-Brown was named regional coach of the year. Forward Ashley Banks, defender Greer Barnes and midfielder Amanda Cicchini were named Mid-Atlantic Region first-team selections. The trio is now eligible for All-America consideration to be announced in the coming days. Midfielder Carolyn Blank and forward Deana Everrett were named second team Mid-Atlantic all-region and forward Megan Mischler was named to the Mid-Atlantic Freshman all-region squad. The Soccer Buzz all-region honor is the third for Cicchini (second team 2005, first team 2006), second for Everrett (first team 2006) and third for Izzo-Brown (2000, 2002). Earlier this month, Izzo-Brown was named the NSCAA’s Regional Coach of the Year after guiding the Mountaineers to their first NCAA Elite Eight appearance in school history. WVU put together a record of 18-5-2 with its 18 wins tying the school record for victories in a season. Soccer Buzz awards are based on a nomination process open to all NCAA Division I coaches with voting conducted by select coaches and Soccer Buzz staff. All 315 schools sponsoring Division I women's soccer in 2007 are eligible for national and regional awards.
