Women's Soccer: Barnes Honored for Weekend PlayBy Grant Dovey for MSNsportsNET.com
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer player Greer Barnes was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week for her play in last weekend’s BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal game. Barnes, a Rye, N.Y., native, helped lead West Virginia to a win against Louisville to move on in the BIG EAST Tournament. Barnes recorded the fourth and final goal in the 4-0 victory over Louisville. Barnes finished the match with two shots in 90 minutes. The defender also helped the Mountaineers pitch their 13th shutout of the season. This is the Barnes’ first accolade from TopDrawerSoccer this season, but the senior has been named to the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week and Soccer America Team of the Week three times each this season. The 15th-ranked Mountaineers return to action at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 7, against UConn. The tournament now will move to Notre Dame, Ind., for the semifinals and championship games. With a West Virginia win on Friday, the Mountaineers would go on to play the winner of Notre Dame/Marquette (Friday, 5:00 p.m.) on Sunday, Nov. 9, at noon.
