MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer freshmen Moeryhan “Peabo” Doue, Uwem Etuk and Travis Pittman were named to the College Soccer News “100 Freshmen From Coast To Coast To Keep An Eye On In 2009.” All three played together on the D.C. United U-18 Academy Team this year.
A Germantown, Md., native, Doue was a three-year varsity starter at Clarksburg High and finished his career with 44 goals and 29 assists. The 2008 Maryland Soccer Coaches’ all-state first team forward also was named all-Met Montgomery County first team and all-county first team as a senior.
Etuk played all four years on the varsity squad at Herndon High in Herndon, Va. The forward helped his team capture the Concorde District Championship in 2008. That year, he also guided the SYC Jr. Royals to the U-17 Virginia state championship. In 2007, he was named to the National Select Team and invited to the National Camp as a midfielder.
Pittman comes to Morgantown from Manassas, Va., where he was a three-year varsity starter at Osbourn High. He was well-decorated as a junior, where he was named Virginia AAA all-state first team, all-Met first team and first team all-Northern Virginia. In 2009, he was selected to the U-18 U.S. National Team Pool. The midfielder also played on the U-14 and U-16 U.S. National Teams.
The Mountaineers play their first exhibition match on Sunday, Aug. 23, against Michigan. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
