MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer player Abel “Shadow” Sebele has been named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, conference officials announced today.

A freshman from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Sebele recorded his first collegiate goal – a game-winner – against then-No. 3/5-ranked USF on Sept. 25. After receiving a pass from sophomore Alex Silva in the 18-yard box, Sebele tapped the ball around Bulls’ goalkeeper Jeff Attinella at the 91:12 mark for the 1-0 overtime victory.

Two days later, he earned two points against DePaul, setting up both of WVU’s scores in a 2-1 overtime victory. His first assist came in the 83rd minute, when he served a corner kick into the six-yard box that was headed in by freshman Travis Pittman. His second assist set up the game-winning goal in overtime. Sebele finished the match with three shots and played all 94 minutes.

Sebele is tied for the team lead with five points and leads all Mountaineers in shots (17) and shots on-goal (5).

The Mountaineers (4-2-2, 3-1-0 BIG EAST) return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Marquette (2-4-2, 1-1-2 BE). Kickoff at Valley Fields is set for 8:05 p.m. ET.
