Swimming: Burnett Earns BIG EAST Honorby Grant Dovey for MSNsportsNET.com January 13, 2010
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s swimming and diving freshman Rachael Burnett has been named this week’s women’s BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for her performance in a win against Pitt. The Annandale, Va., native swam to three first-place finishes in the winning effort. Burnett swam to her first first-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.63. Burnett then took the 200 fly by storm and won the race with a time of 2:03.82. She continued her dominance in the 500 free, finishing first for the third time in 4:58.47. Burnett was also on the winning 400 free relay team that set a new pool record with a time of 3:27.14. West Virginia will resume its season when it travels to College Park, Md., to participate in a dual meet on Jan. 23 at 1 p.m.
