MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer players Raymon Gaddis and Eric Schoenle are competing this summer for Reading United A.C., a Pennsylvania-based team in the United Soccer League’s (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) – the top men’s pro-am league in North America.
Gaddis and Schoenle, staples on the Mountaineers’ back line in 2009, have competed in four matches, playing the maximum 360 minutes each.
On May 22, Reading United faced the Carolina Dynamo in Greensboro, N.C., in United’s final U.S. Open Cup qualifier. Reading United needed a strong offensive performance to better its’ goal differential and qualify for the U.S. Open Cup. Reading United, which blanked Carolina, 4-0, received its second goal of the match from Schoenle and its final score from Gaddis.
With the victory, the team slipped past Newark Ironbound Express in the Eastern Conference’s Mid-Atlantic Division to secure the division’s berth for the U.S. Open Cup. Reading United returns to action for a pair of leagues matches against the Bermuda Hogges FC on Friday, May 28, and Sunday, May 30, in Hamilton, Bermuda.
In mid-June, Reading United will find out its first opponent in the U.S. Open Cup.
