Women's Soccer: BIG EAST Honors Miller, Silva

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A pair of West Virginia women’s soccer players picked up BIG EAST weekly honors the conference announced today. Forward Blake Miller was named Offensive Player of the Week and forward Frances Silva was tabbed Rookie of the Week.

Miller continues her strong play as she led the Mountaineers to a pair of conference wins that secured a Top 2 division finish. The St. Louis, Mo., native scored three goals and tallied one assist in a seven-point weekend. Six of Miller’s 10 shots on the weekend were on-goal attempts and the game-winner was the ninth of her career.

Against Villanova, Miller recorded one goal and one assist to go with a career-high eight shots in a come-from-behind victory. Yesterday, she scored two goals in a shutout win over Georgetown – the second multi-goal game of her career.

Silva turned in the finest weekend of her young career with a four-point effort. The Overland Park, Kan., native notched her first career assist on Miller’s goal in the comeback win against Villanova. Yesterday, she assisted on the game-winner and added an insurance goal in the Georgetown victory.

Silva logged 151 minutes in the two starts and her one goal, one assist afternoon was the first in exactly two years since a rookie recorded a three-point day (Miller vs. Georgetown - Oct. 17, 2008).

The Mountaineers conclude regular-season play with a pair of home matches this weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Oct. 22, against Connecticut.
