MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University quarterback Geno Smith was named Big East player of the week for his four-touchdown passing performance last Saturday against Cincinnati, the conference announced today.

Smith, a sophomore from Miami, Fla., completed 12 of 22 passes for 150 yards in the first half and finished the afternoon 15 of 25 for 174 yards with one interception as the Mountaineers defeated the Bearcats 37-10. Smith’s touchdown passes covered 32, 10, 48 and 5 yards to match a career-high set earlier this season against Maryland.

For the year, Smith is now completing 65.2 percent of his pass attempts for 1,870 yards and 19 touchdowns. His 19 TD passes ties him with Rasheed Marshall and Oliver Luck for third on the WVU single season list.

The Mountaineers, now 6-3, 2-2, travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals (5-5, 2-3) on Saturday at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in a noon game that will be televised on the Big East Network. Last Saturday ouisville dropped a heartbreaker to South Florida in overtime, 24-21, after tying the game late in the fourth quarter.
