MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – West Virginia University cornerback Brandon Hogan has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday against Pitt, the conference announced today.

Hogan, a native of Manassas, Va., had a hand in two first-half turnovers to lead West Virginia to a 35-10 win at Pittsburgh, forging a three-way tie atop the BIG EAST standings. Hogan had a 53-yard interception return to the 2-yard line on the first series to set up the Mountaineers’ first touchdown of the day and he added a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the second quarter. Hogan finished with six tackles as part of a West Virginia defense that has not allowed more than 21 points in a game this season.

A senior and three-year starter at cornerback, Hogan has recorded 36 tackles, three interceptions, six pass breakups and one fumble recovery on the season. In his career, he has recorded 170 tackles, 23 pass breakups, seven interceptions and five fumble recoveries.

The Mountaineers, now 8-3, 4-2, host Rutgers (4-7, 1-5) on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium in a noon game that will be televised by ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2.
