MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer player Eric Schoenle will attend a U.S. Under-20 (U-20) Men’s National Team camp from Dec. 12-19 in Sunrise, Fla.

“Eric is one of the best center backs in the country,” coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “We are very proud of his development and we are excited for his first U.S. National Team experience.”

A Yardley, Pa., native, Schoenle is one of 24 players and 11 collegiate players attending the week-long camp that will include two friendly matches against Canada on Dec. 16 and Dec. 18. The training camp serves as preparation for the FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup, scheduled for July 29, 2011, in Colombia.

Schoenle finished the 2010 season playing in 20 games, anchoring the back line for the Mountaineers. He was fourth on the team in scoring with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Three of his goals were game-winners.

West Virginia finished the season 11-8-2 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Mountaineers return 10 regular starters and 18 letterwinners in 2011. All of the team’s 34 goals in 2010 return and WVU only lose seven of its 116 points.
