MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Madina Ali averaged 23 points per game on 51.6 percent shooting from the field last week to earn her third BIG EAST honor roll award of the season as announced by the league office today.

The Mountaineers suffered their first loss this season at Marquette last week, moving to 17-1 overall this season and 4-1 in the BIG EAST, and causing them to drop in the Associated Press poll from No. 6 last week to No. 9 this week.

Ali led the Mountaineers in bouncing back from the loss with her seventh double-double this season as she put up a career-high 32 points and pulled down 10 rebounds against Syracuse. The win extended West Virginia’s home court streak to 29 games. It was the first 30-point game of Ali’s career and the seventh time she led WVU in scoring this season.

At forward, Ali was 10-for-19 from the field, shooting 52.6 percent, including a 3-pointer, two blocks, two steals and an assist against the Orange. She also shot 73.3 percent from the free throw line, allowing WVU another 13 points.

At Marquette, Ali put up numbers in double figures as she recorded 14 points off of 50 percent shooting (6-of-12). In addition she had five rebounds and a pair of assists against the Golden Eagles.

Ali and the Mountaineers will face in-state rival Marshall at the Charleston Civic Center, Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m. for the Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic. The Mountaineers will wrap up the week on Saturday with a 4 p.m. game against BIG EAST rival USF in the WVU Coliseum. Both games will be broadcast live on WVPBS. Saturday’s game is Alumni Day.
