Women's Soccer: McCarthy Headed To Greece
“This is a special opportunity that doesn’t come around very often,” says McCarthy, a third team all-BIG EAST performer last season for the Mountaineers. “I am very excited to join my teammates and represent Canada against some of the nation’s top teams.” Games are scheduled for March 2, 4 and 7 at the 12-team tournament in Cyprus. Canada is a two-time Cyprus Women's Cup champion, having won titles in 2008 and 2010. “We are very excited for Bry to again represent her country at the highest level," says WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “Participating as a member of the full Canadian National Team provides an invaluable experience for her. We look forward to having a Mountaineer competing in the World Cup this summer.” All training camps and competitions will culminate with this summer’s 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany. McCarthy made her international debut at outside back with the Full Canadian National Team last summer in Hamar, Norway. The sophomore played a full 90 minutes in helping Canada play to a 1-1 draw with Norway in a friendly event. |
