MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The BIG EAST Conference office announced the 2011 BIG EAST Conference Championship bracket today and has West Virginia entering the first round as the No. 10 seed to face the 15th-seeded Cincinnati on Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m., at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.

The last time the teams met, the Mountaineers (22-8, 8-8 BIG EAST) defeated the Bearcats (9-19, 2-14 BIG EAST), 72-44, at home, on Jan. 8, 2011. The loss was the first of a 13-game skid for Cincinnati, which was ended tonight with a 65-62 upset over No. 22 Marquette in Cincinnati.

The Mountaineers have competed in the BIG EAST tournament for eight consecutive seasons under head coach Mike Carey. Carey has won more postseason BIG EAST games than any other coach in WVU history as he holds a 10-9 conference tournament record. WVU has made two appearances in the BIG EAST Championship game in the history of the program (2006 & 2010), both under Carey. Last season, the Mountaineers defeated DePaul and Rutgers to face Connecticut in the championship game.

The first round, held on Friday, March 4, will stream live free at www.bigeast.org. The second round, held on Saturday, March 5, will be broadcast live on BIG EAST TV and streamed online. The winner of the WVU-Cincinnati game on Friday will advance to the second round on Saturday to face the seventh-seeded St. John’s at 6 p.m.

The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds held on March 6-7 will be on ESPNU, while the championship game on Tuesday, March 8 at 7 p.m., will be carried live on ESPN.
