MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University basketball coach Bob Huggins has announced the signing of Dominique Rutledge to a national letter of intent for the 2011-12 academic year.

Rutledge, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward, is from Newark, N.J., and is currently attending Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. He previously attended Miami Dade Junior College in 2009-10 and averaged 11.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. In 2008-09, he attended Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan., and averaged 8.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

Rutledge attended Malcolm X Shabazz High in Newark, N.J., and attended prep school at Edison Job Corps Academy in Edison, N.J., where he averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds per game. Rutledge played AAU basketball for Team New Jersey Elite and averaged 17 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four blocks per game.

“Dominique is a big body who gives us athleticism and versatility on the front line,” says Huggins. “He should be able to defend all of the front line positions and will give us an effective midrange scorer. He was highly recommended by former WVU great Da’Sean Butler.”

Rutledge joins Aaron Brown (Darby, Pa., Penn Wood High), Pat Forsythe (Brunswick, Ohio, Brunswick High), Jabarie Hinds (Mount Vernon, N.Y., Mount Vernon High), Tommie McCune (Saginaw, Mich., Saginaw High) and Keaton Miles (Dallas, Texas, Lincoln High) as signees for the 2011-12 season.
