Sports Communications Collects Publication Awards

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Sports Communications Office captured seven national awards, including four “Best in the Nation” citations, in the 2010-11 CoSIDA Publications Contests announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The 2010 women’s soccer guide earned best in nation and its magazine-style cover was recognized as “Best Cover in the Nation.” Authoring and designing the publication was Tim Goodenow, WVU’s Assistant Sports Publications Director. The cover photo was taken by Brian Persinger of WVU Photographic Services.
The 2010 volleyball guide, authored by former graduate assistant Kelly Tuckwiller, and the 2010-11 wrestling guide, authored by former graduate assistant Ira Green and current graduate assistant Daniel Whitehead, also received “Best in the Nation” accolades.
West Virginia’s 2010-11 men’s basketball poster, showcasing elements from the Mountaineers’ 2010 Final Four run and BIG EAST championship, was voted second in nation. The poster was put together by Joe Swan, WVU’s Sports Publications Director, and Bryan Messerly, WVU’s Sports Information Director.
The men’s soccer guide, authored by Green and student assistant Grant Dovey, was tabbed third in nation and the men’s basketball guide, authored by Messerly, was rated fourth in nation.
“It is gratifying to have your work recognized by your peers, and these awards are a tribute to the talents of our sports communications staff and creative partners,” says Swan.
Swan (Managing Editor) and Goodenow (Assistant Editor) coordinate the publications for WVU Sports Communications. Assisting in the design of the publications was Blaine Turner Advertising, Inc. of Morgantown.
