MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In appreciation of the United States Armed Forces, the West Virginia men’s basketball team and the Illinois men’s basketball team will provide entertainment to members of the military and their families stationed at the Aviano Air Force Base in Venice on August 17 as a part of the Mountaineers’ Italian tour.

The entertainment activities include a basketball clinic for children of the military, grades sixth and under, a showcase of skills from the student-athletes with a dunk show and a scrimmage opportunity between student-athletes and select military personnel. A basketball exhibition consisting of two 10-minute halves between WVU and Illinois will close out the day.

The NCAA granted the Mountaineers and Illinois a waiver allowing relief from a rule stating that during a summer tour American teams cannot compete against other American teams. The event is the first of its kind for WVU.

The Mountaineers will depart for Italy on Monday, August 8 and return Sunday, August 21. The schedule for the remaining games on the tour is being finalized and will be released on Monday, August 8.
