MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Are you ready for some football?
West Virginia University senior defensive end Bruce Irvin gets fitted for his helmet Thursday morning as Mountaineer players report for training camp, which officially begins Friday evening.
West Virginia, recently picked to win the Big East Conference, will open the 2011 regular season on Sunday, Sept. 4, at Milan Puskar Stadium against Marshall. That game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
“Our players understand this … that anybody can win on any given day in this conference,” said West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen. “The fact that we’re picked first I think is a tribute to the program and what has taken place over the last six years.
“But from a preparation standpoint it doesn’t mean anything. It’s been widely stated that our job is to show up and make sure that we practice for the next three weeks to get as an offense, better as a defense, better with our special teams units, and then use the remaining 10 days to get ready for Marshall,” Holgorsen said. “That’s all we’re concerned with at this point.”
Season tickets are still available and can be purchased through the Mountaineer Ticket Office by calling 1-800-WVU GAME or by logging on to WVUGAME.com
Single game and mini-season ticket packages will also go on sale to the general public beginning Monday, Aug. 8.
