MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a second-place performance at the Toledo Bubble Buster Invitational, the West Virginia cross country team is ranked No. 24 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA) national poll released Tuesday.

After a No. 19 ranking last week, the Mountaineers were defeated last weekend by an unranked Arkansas squad, which jumped to No. 18 in the country with the victory.

Despite having three runners finish in the top 10 at the 4k race, WVU arrived in second place with 57 points to the Razorbacks’ 36 points. Kate Harrison (1st), Kaitlyn Gillespie (2nd) and Sarah-Anne Brault (5th) led the team, while Kaylyn Christopher (17th) and Stephanie Aldea (32nd) also scored.

The Mountaineers compete on Saturday at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky. The 5k race begins at 10:15 a.m.

West Virginia retained its No. 5 rank in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional standings released Monday. BIG EAST foes Georgetown (1), Providence (3) and Villanova (5) maintained their top 5 national status over the weekend.

Cal went from unranked to No. 10 following a first-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational as the top nine schools did not change. The Pac-12 has six teams in the top 30 for the conference lead, followed by the BIG EAST (5) and Big Ten (5).
