MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – With two events out of their way, the No. 24 West Virginia cross country team will compete at the 10th annual Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The women’s gold 5k race is slated to begin at 10:15 a.m. and will take place at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The last time the Mountaineers competed in Louisville was in 2007, when WVU took home its first-ever BIG EAST championship. This year’s BIG EAST championship will be held at the same course.

WVU will face the likes of No. 13 Michigan, Alabama, Marquette, Kentucky, Purdue, Ole Miss and USF, among others.

“Our season has been set up to take a look at both the BIG EAST and Maryland Eastern Shore for regionals,” says WVU coach Sean Cleary. “This weekend will bring with it an opportunity to find out how much progression that we have made so far.”

Redshirt seniors Stephanie Caruso and Ahna Lewis will see their first action of the year after sitting out the first two meets. Stephanie Aldea, Jordan Hamric, Chelsea Jarvis, Sarah Martinelli, Aubrey Moskal, Allison Pettit and Hallie Portner will also suit up for the Mountaineers.

“We will be going back to a very similar lineup as the one that we used at UMES,” Cleary says. “We are in great need for a few from this group to step up and emerge as potential top 5 runners. I believe that each and every one of these ladies has the ability to help this program at a level that they have only dreamed about. This weekend is an opportunity to take a look into the future.”

Results from the race will be posted on alltraxtiming.com or at MSNsportsNET.com.
