MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia women’s tennis team completed play at the ITA Atlantic Regional in Norfolk, Va., on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Emily Mathis, who advanced to the round of 32 in the Women’s Singles draw after a win over Cameron Richard of Liberty on Saturday, loss to No. 10 seeded Marlen Mesgarzadeh of William & Mary, 6-3, 7-6, 7-6 (5).

“Emily fought hard again against a solid player from William & Mary,” said coach Tina Samara. “She had chances, but she wasn’t hitting her mark consistently enough. This continues to show her that with hard work and practicing with purpose she can hang with players from the top schools.”

In Women’s Singles consolation play, freshman Ikttesh Chahal squared off against Georgetown’s Vicky Sekely.

Chahal battled, but lost in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.

Also competing in Women’s Singles consolation play was sophomore Mary Chupa. The Brandenton, Fla., native was matched against Fernanda Perrotta of Penn State and lost, 6-0, 7-6 (3).

This concludes the Mountaineers’ 2011 fall season. WVU will continue action in the spring of 2012 in its second season under the direction of Samara.
