MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – On the heels of an off week, the West Virginia University rifle team dropped one spot to No. 3 in this week’s College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll.
The Mountaineers (5-0, 3-0 GARC) opened the year ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll before ascending to the No. 1 ranking on Oct. 25. WVU’s ranking is based on its last recorded score, a 4688 mark shot in a victory over Murray State on Oct. 30.
Kentucky, the 2011 national champion, is ranked No. 1 for the second straight week after shooting an NCAA-record 4711 score on Oct. 30. TCU jumped the Mountaineers and is ranked No. 2; the Horned Frogs shot a school-record 4701 on Nov. 7, also in a victory over Murray State.
The CRCA issues new rankings every week this season, and each poll is based on the team’s most recent reported score.
UTEP (4659) and Ole Miss (4653) hold steady at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, for the second consecutive week.
Army (4651) moved up two spots and is ranked No. 6 this week, while Alaska-Fairbanks (4647) and Nevada (4641) dropped one spot each and are ranked No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. Jacksonville State (4634) entered the rankings at No. 9, and Memphis (4633) dropped one spot to No. 10.
