Elijah Macon
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University basketball coach Bob Huggins has announced the signing of Elijah Macon to a national letter of intent for the 2012-13 academic year.

Macon, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound power forward, is currently attending Huntington Prep in Huntington, W.Va., playing for coach Rob Fulford. He spent the last three years in Columbus, Ohio, where he attended Marion-Franklin High and averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks as a junior. Macon was tabbed by the Columbus Dispatch as a District 10 All-Star and named to the all-City League South Division first team.

He also earned all-Ohio Area honorable mention honors as a junior. Macon was ranked as the No. 1 junior prospect in the state of Ohio by Ohio Prep Spotlight magazine, rated as the 13th-best power forward by Scout.com, is a Rivals 4 star and ranked as the No. 44 best player in the 2012 class by ESPNU. Macon played AAU basketball for the All-Ohio Red.

“Obviously, Elijah brings a great deal of athleticism and talent,” says Huggins. “Elijah has been one of the premier big people in Ohio for several years. With Kevin Jones graduating, we lose a tremendous rebounder and believe Elijah can give us the same kind of production that KJ was able to do as a freshman. Elijah has a tremendous upside.”

Macon is the second recruit to sign with WVU for the 2012-13 academic year. Eron Harris, a 6-foot-4 guard from Indianapolis, signed with the Mountaineers on Wednesday. The November signing period continues through next Wednesday.
