MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The No. 3-ranked West Virginia University rifle team will play host to No. 5 Ole Miss tomorrow at the WVU Rifle Range at 8 am.
The contest against the Rebels, a Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) foe, will be the Mountaineers’ (5-0, 3-0 GARC) last of the semester.
“Well, it’s our last match before the break. It’s always a good match shooting against a conference rival, so we obviously want to have a good result, but we’ll continue to work on our performance and hopefully go out on a positive note,” says WVU coach Jon Hammond.
WVU is coming off an open week after its last weekend of competition at the WVU Rifle Range on Oct. 29 and 30, when the Mountaineers triumphed over the Memphis Tigers, 4678-4616, and the Murray State Racers, 4688-4615.
Hammond’s team proved itself yet again during the back-to-back matches with a record-breaking weekend, as junior Petra Zublasing shot an NCAA record smallbore score of 593 against the Racers, while freshman Amy Bock tied the school's prone record with a 200 against Memphis and classmate Meelis Kiisk shot a personal-best overall score of 1164 against Murray State.
The Mountaineers are 6-3 against Ole Miss (3-2, 1-2 GARC) since 2002.
Tomorrow’s match is expected to last into the afternoon, and fans can find live stats at www.MSNsportsNET.com.
