Rifle: Spurgeon Signs with WVU
“We’re really excited Garrett has decided to join the Mountaineers,” Hammond says. “We have followed his progress for a long time, and he has the potential to have a fantastic career at WVU.” A native of Canton, Mo., Spurgeon is a senior at Canton High. Equally strong in smallbore and air rifle, his is a four-time National Junior Olympics qualifier and a two-time Missouri air rifle state champion (2010, 2011). Additionally, Spurgeon was the high J2 smallbore shooter at the 2010 and 2011 USA National Championships and the high J2 air rifle shooter at the 201 National Junior Olympics. “Garrett has a great personality, is highly motivated and is a hard worker,” says Hammond. “Beside the fact that he is a talented shooter, he has all of the other attributes we look for, and I think he will be an excellent fit with this team. “I’m really looking forward to coaching Garrett, and I am excited to see how he continues to progress.” |
