MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia finished the regular season ranked 22nd in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and 23rd in the AP poll, both released earlier today.
The Mountaineers dropped one spot in the AP poll and two places in the coaches’ poll despite ending the season with a 30-27 victory at South Florida. Last year’s final regular season poll had WVU ranked 22nd in both polls.
WVU began this season ranked 24th in the AP poll and was not ranked in the coaches’ poll. The Mountaineers spent all but one week ranked in a least one poll this season, West Virginia dropping out of the rankings for one week following its 38-35 loss to Louisville on Nov. 5.
Since Oct. 9, 2005, West Virginia has been ranked in 78 out of 107 weeks.
The Mountaineers will learn their bowl destination later today. Be sure to stop back to MSNsportsNET.com for complete ticket and travel information.
