Women's Basketball: Dunning Named to Honor Roll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia redshirt-junior Ayana Dunning was named to the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Honor Roll this week after helping the Mountaineers to a pair of wins last week.
The Columbus, Ohio native opened the week with the first double-double of her career as she led the Mountaineers both in scoring and in rebounding with 19 points and 15 rebounds in WVU’s 76-72 road win over Syracuse in the BIG EAST opener. Dunning sunk her first 3-pointer this season and shot 50 percent (8-16) from the field, while dishing out three assists and grabbing three steals.
In Saturday’s 86-30 win over North Florida, Dunning was the second-leading scorer as she recorded 15 points. Defensively, Dunning led all players with nine rebounds, helping WVU to a 42-21 rebound advantage over North Florida. She also grabbed three steals and had a block.
The redshirt-junior averaged 17.0 points per game and 12.0 rebounds per game last week. She shot 53.8 percent (14-26) from the field and was 100 percent (5-5) from the free throw line.
With last week’s performance, Dunning rounds out the top three scorers this season for WVU as she averages 7.4 points per game and leads in rebounding with 8.7 boards per game. She also holds the second-highest steals total as she has grabbed 13 this season.
Dunning is the first Mountaineer to earn the weekly honor this season.
