Men's Soccer: Bevin Earns Soccer America Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Forward Andy Bevin of the West Virginia men’s soccer team continues to bring in postseason awards as he was named a first team member of 2011 Soccer America All-Freshman team the publication announced today.

A Napier, New Zealand, native, Bevin finished his rookie campaign with a team-leading seven goals, along with two assists for 16 points. Bevin started all 20 matches at the forward position.

Bevin becomes the first WVU men’s soccer player in history to earn this honor, as well as being the first to earn BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, ECAC Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Year and to be named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com first team all-freshman squad. Bevin was also named to the all-BIG EAST third team and was an NSCAA all-Northeast region member.

Additionally, TopDrawerSoccer.com announced its postseason rankings throughout the week. Bevin was named No. 9 on the Men’s Postseason Freshmen Top 100, while Raymon Gaddis and Eric Schoenle were No. 67 and No. 95, respectively, on the Men’s Postseason National Top 100. In the BIG EAST Conference Postseason Top 20, Gaddis was ranked No. 15, while Schoenle was No. 20.

West Virginia finished the 2011 season with an 11-8-1 record, 6-3-0 in BIG EAST play. The Mountaineers advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season.
