MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia swimming and diving teams will complete its home dual meet schedule against Pitt on Saturday, Jan. 7, at noon in the WVU Natatorium.

“This is always a hard fought meet and a great rivalry,” coach Vic Riggs says. “I know Chuck (Knoles) and Pitt will show up ready to compete and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do coming off our training trip. This is a great meet to start our championship season and neither teams wants to lose, so that makes for some great racing and diving.”

The meet will also serve as Senior Day, the first full class to go through the program under Riggs and his coaching staff. Taylor Camp, Brandon Carr, Brad Eichenseer, Jack Greenhalgh, Eric Johnson, Jake Kudrna, Matt O’Neill, Ian Stavros and Martin Vanis will represent the men honored prior to the meet, while Heidi Shultz and Jaryn Studer are the lone women’s swimmers.

“It is hard to believe that it has been four years and it has been an honor and pleasure to watch this senior class grow,” Riggs says. “I remember asking them, when I was recruiting this class, to come help me build something and they have done that and more.

“This is a very special class for me as it is my first graduating class as a head coach and will always have a special meaning for me.”

The men will be looking to defeat the Panthers for the third consecutive season, while the women look to get back on the winning side after falling to Pitt last season. Last season at Pitt the men won 158-142, while the women fell 194-104.

WVU recently returned from a training trip in south Florida, where it swam in the Deerfield Beach Relays on Jan. 2. WVU was last in dual meet action on Nov. 12, with a double dual meet against Cincinnati and Villanova. The women defeated the Bearcats 191-104, while the men won 178-107. The women took Villanova down by a score of 166-131, and the men defeated them 190-100.

Pitt was last in action hosting the Pitt Invite from Nov. 18-20, where the men finished in first place and women took second place.

Admission to Saturday’s meet is free.
