The Pasadena, Md., native joins Jacksonville State’s Andrea Dardas on the honor roll; TCU’s Sarah Beard earned the sport’s Primetime Performer of the Week honor. Ciotola earned the distinction following a career-best weekend in two wins for the No. 3-ranked WVU rifle team, as he helped the Mountaineers (9-0, 4-0 GARC) defeat No. 5 Alaska-Fairbanks, 4676-4626, on Jan. 20, at the WVU Rifle Range, and Ohio State, 4680-4616, on Jan. 22, at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Converse Hall, in Columbus, Ohio. He opened the weekend tying teammate Thomas Kyanko for first place overall against the Nanooks with a personal-best 1170 combined score. Ciotola also finished first in smallbore with a career-best 584 and shot 586 air rifle. At OSU, Ciotola shot a career-high 589 air rifle and tied for third place. He also finished fifth in smallbore with a 575 score. Ciotola counted toward the Mountaineers’ air rifle and smallbore scores in both matches. WVU hopes to extend its win streak to 10 matches at No. 1 TCU this weekend. The Mountaineers and the Horned Frogs will line up for a shoulder-to-shoulder match on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the TCU Rifle Range, in Fort Worth, Texas. |
