MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU women’s swimming and diving team will compete in its final dual meet of the season at Ohio, this evening at 5 p.m.
“This is a great chance for the ladies to come together as a team and finish the season against a fine program like Ohio,” says coach Vic Riggs.
The women are coming off a 202-97 loss to Maryland last Saturday. Rachael Burnett swam to two first-place finishes in the 200 free and the 500 free, and took second in the 100 free. Kata Fodor also had a first-place finish for the women in the 1000 free, and placed third in the 500 free (4:56.96). Mandie Nugent took first in the 200 fly (2:01.81) and second in the 100 fly (56.22).
Other scoring swims included Danielle Smith’s second-place finish in the 100 back, Jenelle Zee’s third in the 100 breast and a third place by Tiera Butkus in the 50 free.
Ohio is coming off a 154-78 victory over Marshall on Jan. 17. This is the team’s third straight dual meet victory. The team of Rachel Stearns, Tori Bagan, Molly Slattery and Lauren Funk finished first in the 200 medley relay, followed by Lauren Williams first-place finish in the 1650 freestyle. Abby Corcoran took first in the 200 free and Annie Donovan won the 50 free. Anastasia Bocharnikova finished first in the 200 IM.
“Ohio will provide the challenges we need as we get ready for the BIG EAST Championships,” says Riggs.
Last year, the women fell to the Bobcats 176-122.
