Rifle: Mountaineers Continue to Rank No. 3

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Despite registering its first loss of the season, the West Virginia University rifle team continues to rank No. 3 in this week’s College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll.
The CRCA Poll is released every week, with the remainder of the season’s rankings based on the team’s three-match average, with each score pulled from a different venue.
Based on the polling criteria, the Mountaineers (9-1, 4-0 GARC) own a season-average of 4680.67.
TCU continues to rank No. 1 with a 4700.0 average; the Horned Frogs, the 2010 national champions, defeated the Mountaineers, 4701-4669, on Jan. 28, at the TCU Rifle Range, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Defending national champions Kentucky again rank No. 2 with a 4699.33 average; the Wildcats will lineup with the Mountaineers this Friday, Feb. 3, for an 8 a.m. match at the WVU Rifle Range.
UTEP jumps four spots and is ranked No. 4 (4657.67) this week, while Army drops one spot and ranks No. 5 (4655.33).
Alaska-Fairbanks is ranked No. 6 (4654.33), while Ole Miss is No. 7 (4651.67) and Nevada is No. 8 (4650.00). Jacksonville State (4650.00) and Murray State (4633.67) round out the top 10.
Following its match with UK, WVU will play host to NC State on Sunday, Feb. 5, at the WVU Rifle Range. The match will begin at 8 a.m.
