Diving: Four Head to Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU men’s and women’s diving teams will commence on the BIG EAST Championships from Feb. 10-12 at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The men will perform off the 1-meter on Friday and the women will be on the 3-meter, while the men will be on the 3-meter on Saturday with the women on the 1-meter. The preliminary rounds will start at noon each day, while the finals will begin at 6 p.m. both days.

On the men’s side, senior Matt O’Neill and sophomore Richard Pokorny will be representing the men. O’Neill finished seventh on both the 1-meter (289.65 points) and 3-meter (315.70 points) boards last season, while Pokorny finished 14th on the 3-meter (238.15 points). This will be O’Neill’s fourth trip to the championships.

The women will be represented by a pair of freshmen in Haily VandePoel and Jennifer Rey. VandePoel will be competing on both boards, while Rey has qualified on 1-meter.

Leading the team is Michael Grapner, who is in his first full season as coach of the WVU diving squad.
