Women’s Tennis: WVU Hosts George Washington
The Mountaineers, who are in search of their first win this season, last saw action on Sunday against Akron. “We had a better week of practice this week than in the last couple of weeks,” says coach Tina Samara. “Our girls were more comfortable throughout the week, and I expect them to compete on Saturday afternoon.” The Colonials (1-1), who are coming off of a 4-3 loss to Old Dominion, are a familiar foe to the Mountaineers, as both teams competed against each other in the ITA Atlantic Regionals. “We got a chance to see a few of their players during the fall, but other than that, we do not have a great knowledge of them,” Samara says. “If we go out and play our best from top to bottom, we will have a chance to walk away victorious.” Senior Veronica Cardenas has been one of the top performers for the Mountaineers this season, as she has collected two singles victories in the No. 4 singles spot as well as two doubles wins with freshman Ikttesh Chahal. “Veronica is someone that has put in the work that we ask during practice, and the results have shown on the court,” Samara says. “If all of our girls put the work in that we ask, we will start to see the results that we want to see on the court.” WVU is 9-13-0 all-time against George Washington. A full recap of Saturday’s action against George Washington will available on MSNsportsNET.com after the completion of competition. |
