Track: Gold-Blue Meet a Success
Triple jumper Stormy Nesbit highlighted the meet as she set a career-best mark of 12.26 meters in the event, eclipsing her previous season-best mark of 11.90 meters by a wide margin. Her 12.26 mark currently sits at seventh-best in the BIG EAST. In the high jump, senior Katelyn Williams set a season- and team-best 1.75 meters for the event as she neared her personal record of 1.79 meters. Teammate Sydney Cummings placed second at 1.70 meters as both re-qualified for the conference championships. For the first time any Mountaineer has run the 200-meter dash this season, sophomores Chené Townsend and Jenna Barreto placed first and second, respectively, at 25.92 and 26.67 seconds. Townsend re-qualified for BIG EAST in the 60-meter hurdles, earning a mark of 8.68 seconds in Friday’s finals round. Pole vaulter Katlyn Shelar re-qualified for BIG EAST with a mark of 3.55 meters to place first, while Lindsay Kopenhaver placed second at 3.40 meters. Shakiyla Cosby came in first place in the 400-meter dash at 59.79 seconds, while Kristen McWhorter placed third at 1:05.11. Redshirt sophomore Alex Klauke placed first in the 1,000-meter run in 3:03.98, while Chelsea Jarvis finished first in the 3,000-meter in 10:31.58. Weight thrower Alanna Pritts placed first in her event at 13.03 meters. The Mountaineers next compete at the BIG EAST Championships, which occur Feb. 18-19 in New York City.
