MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Coach Marlon LeBlanc of the WVU men’s soccer team has announced the addition of Francio Henry to this season’s recruiting class.
“I am extremely excited to add Francio to our 2012 recruiting class,” LeBlanc says. “Francio will make an immediate impact on our team in either the midfield or defense. He has very good feet, passes the ball well and he is composed under pressure because he plays with his head up”
A native of St. Catherine, Jamaica, Henry recently graduated from Dinthill Technical High, where he played for coach Curtis “Fleego” Hamilton. Henry participated in the DaCosta Cup with the squad and served as the team captain, scoring four goals and registering five assists during that time.
“He’s got very good speed, he has a tremendous amount of athleticism and at 6-foot-3, is very good in the air,” LeBlanc says. “He is an excellent addition to an already outstanding recruiting class.”
The midfielder previously attended St. Jago High, where he served as team captain of the U14 team.
Henry has been most recently playing for coach Stephen Barker with Ewarton FC and is currently serving as team captain. Previously, Henry played for Creation FC U17, where he was promoted to the Division 2 team in 2004 and the MVP of Division 2 competition.
WVU previously added Haydon Bennett (Chesterfield, Va.), Ryan Cain (Wellington, New Zealand), Zak Leedom (Dublin, Ohio), Jamie Merriam (Gaithersburg, Md.), Alessandro Mion (Miami, Fla.), Nick Raskasky (Tacoma, Wash.), Chris Spates (Prince George, Va.) and Kyle Underwood (Aledo, Texas), who all signed on signed day.
West Virginia finished the 2011 season with an 11-8-1 record, 6-3-0 in BIG EAST play. The Mountaineers advanced to the second round NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season.
