Wrestling: Rankings Heading Into Final Dual Meets

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – As the West Virginia University wrestling team prepares for its final dual meets of the 2011-12 season, six Mountaineers are ranked in multiple rankings.

Junior Shane Young (125), who holds a 19-5 overall record, is ranked No. 23 by Wrestling Report.

Redshirt sophomore Nathan Pennesi (133) comes in at No. 25 in the Wrestling Report poll. Pennesi has team highs with 24 wins, 107 dual points for and 46 near fall points for.

Sophomore Michael Morales (141), who collected his 10th win and fourth pin of the season last Friday against Ohio, is ranked No. 29 by Wrestling Report.

Redshirt junior Lance Bryson (174) is ranked No. 21 by Wrestling Report. In last Friday’s dual meet against the Bobcats, Bryson defeated No. 18 Nick Purdue en route to his 20th win of the season.

Redshirt senior Matt Ryan (184) is the highest ranked of the Mountaineers, as he is ranked No. 16 by InterMat, No. 18 by Wrestling Insider NewsMagazine, No. 19 by Amateur Wrestling News and No. 20 by Wrestling Report. Ryan is 15-3 this season and is currently on an eight-match winning streak.

Redshirt senior Brandon Williamson (HWT) is the last of the ranked WVU grapplers. Williamson checks in at No. 17 in the AWN poll, No. 20 in InterMat and No. 24 in Wrestling Report. The native of Greenwich, Conn., is second on the team with 21 victories and is also on an eight-match winning streak.

The Mountaineers will take on No. 20 Edinboro on Saturday at 7 p.m. and then close out the regular season with a dual meet against Cleveland State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
