Swimming: 15 Earn Conference Honors
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The BIG EAST Conference announced its all-conference team for swimming and diving with 15 West Virginia University team members earning honors. Eight individuals earned the honor multiple times, while as a team the Mountaineers had the third-most members named to the all-conference team amongst BIG EAST members. “It’s great to see this many members of the team earn all-conference honors, as this is the most we have ever had,” coach Vic Riggs says. “We had a tremendous meet last week and I’m really proud of the teams and their effort.” The women’s squad completed the meet in third place with a final score of 524 points, behind BIG EAST Champ Louisville (758.5) and Notre Dame (593.5). The men finished in fourth place with a score of 509 points. Notre Dame took the BIG EAST title (887), followed by Louisville (859.5) and Pitt (520). Riggs was named the 2012 BIG EAST Women’s Coach of the Year, while junior Rachael Burnett was named the 2012 BIG EAST Women’s Swimmer of the Year for the second-consecutive year.
