VSR: Zublasing Named Athlete of the Week
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a performance at the GARC Championships that saw her win two individual titles and the league’s top distinction, West Virginia junior Petra Zublasing has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Appiano, Italy, native was crucial in the No. 2 Mountaineer rifle team’s third straight conference title, as she shot 598 air rifle and helped the team overcome a three-shot deficit en route to its victory.
Zublasing won the individual air rifle title with a 702.7 score. She also finished first overall with a combined score of 1178 and placed third in smallbore with a 682.1 mark.
Prior to the championships, Zublasing was named the GARC Shooter of the Year. She finished the year with the conference’s top air rifle, smallbore and combined score season averages.

This Week in Women’s Basketball
WVU returns home for its final game of the regular season at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27 against Pitt. The Mountaineers will celebrate senior night and honor Natalie Burton. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with Deb Antonelli and Brent Stover. Live stats and a full recap of Monday’s game can be found online at MSNsportsNET.com. With a bye in the BIG EAST Tournament, the Mountaineers will enter the second round of the tournament on Saturday, March 3 with a live broadcast on the BIG EAST Network. The quarterfinals round is set for Sunday, the semifinals on Monday on ESPNU and the championship game will take place Tuesday on ESPN/ESPN2.

The West Virginia women’s basketball team went 1-1 on the road last week, falling 63-54 at St. John’s before taking a 66-62 win at Cincinnati … Ayana Dunning guided WVU with a career-high 21 points and 16 rebounds for her fifth career double-double against St. John’s … WVU rallied back from a 14-point deficit to defeat Cincinnati … Asya Bussie and Christal Caldwell co-led with 15 points each in the win, while Dunning had a game-leading 11 rebounds.
