MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia juniors Kaylyn Millick and Alaska Richardson were named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast and co-Specialist of the Week, respectively, today.
The honor is a career first for Millick and Richardson’s second of the season. The Dayton, Ohio, native previously earned the award on January 31. She shares this week’s honor with Pitt’s Alicia Talucci.
Millick, a native of Washington, Pa., scored a career-best 39.175 and finished third overall in the Mountaineers’ upset victory over No. 8 Arkansas on March 10. She closed out the meet with a third place, 9.875 floor routine. The mark, a season high, was the second-best score awarded and was fueled by a 9.95 from one judge. Millick also tied for second on bars with a 9.85 and finished fifth on beam with a 9.825, the third-best score of the meet. She opened the contest with a 9.625 vault score.
With one week remaining in the regular season, Millick ranks No. 4 (9.82 RQS) on bars and No. 5 (9.815 RQS) on floor in the EAGL. She is one score short of earning an all-around regional qualifying score (RQS).
Richardson put together one of her most complete meets against the Razorbacks, tying Arkansas’ Jaime Pisani, the nation's No. 1 overall gymnast, for first on floor with a career-best 9.9 score. She also tied Pisani for second on vault and matched her season-best mark with a 9.875. Richardson has scored 9.8 or better on floor seven times this season and has hit the benchmark on vault six times.
Richardson, the league’s No. 2 floor worker, moved up five spots to No. 42 (9.85 RQS) in this week’s national poll. She also ranks No. 8 (9.835) in the EAGL on vault.
The Mountaineers close out their regular season at No. 10 LSU this Friday, March 16, at 8 p.m. ET, at the Maravich Center, in Baton Rouge, La.
