MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team is set to compete at the Occoquan Sprints, Sunday, on the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, Va.

"The competition at this year's Occoquan Sprints is a bit stiffer than last year's field providing a strong early season test for our crews,” says head coach Jimmy King. “If the weather forecast for favorable racing conditions holds, we should get a good read on the relative speed of our crews."

At last year’s Occoquan Sprints, the Mountaineers saw three crews advance to their respective Grand Finals with the varsity eight finishing second out of 16 total crews, the second varsity eight placing third out of eight total crews and the novice eight ending the day with a fifth-place finish out of 12 crews overall.

West Virginia has four entries in this year’s regatta, with one boat set to compete in the women’s varsity eight event, one boat set to compete in the women’s second varsity eight event, one boat set to compete in the women’s varsity four event and one boat set to compete in the novice four event.

“We've had a productive week of training and we're eager to apply the changes we've made into Sunday's racing,” King says.

A full recap of Sunday’s regatta will be provided by MSNsportsNET.com.
