Track: Hamric Earns Qualifying Time at Stanford
Hamric, a Bruceton Mills, W.Va., native, finished in 15th place in section three of the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:47.05, breaking her previous best of 10:55.08 from last season. The time also meets the BIG EAST qualifying standard of 11:10.24 to earn the second trip of her career to the outdoor league championships in May. As she was in fourth place on the all-time WVU best times list for the event, she will replace her previous personal record with today’s finish. Stephanie Aldea had a strong performance in section six of the 1,500-meter run by placing 11th in 4:39.81, just shy of her personal-best time of 4:33.44 for the event set in 2011. It was also just one second past a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 4:38.44. “It was a good opener for both girls,” says WVU coach Sean Cleary. “That is a huge lifetime best for Jordan. I expect to see both improve significantly over the next few weeks.” As of press time, seniors Jessica O’Connell and Stephanie Caruso had yet to compete in their respective events. O’Connell is slated to compete in section two of the 1,500-meter race at approximately 10 p.m. ET, while Caruso will compete in section two of the 10,000-meter run at 1 a.m. ET.
