Track: Prime Performances at Jesse Owens
Senior Terina Miller earned a second-best personal record in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.09 meters, nearing her personal-best mark of 55.29 set earlier this year at the Raleigh Relays. She placed eighth overall and second in her flight to re-qualify for BIG EAST competition. Chene Townsend placed 14th in the 100-meter dash and first in her section with a career-best 12.21, beating her previous best of 12.38 for the event. She also re-qualified in the 100-meter hurdles with a sixth-place finish of 13.97. Sophomore transfer Stormy Nesbit had a strong performance with a third-place finish in the long jump at 5.99 meters, a personal-best distance and top mark for the team in the event this season. She shattered her previous best distance of 5.77 meters to place first in her flight and re-qualify for BIG EAST. Senior Chelsea Carrier-Eades had a solid meet by placing second in the 100-meter hurdles in a season-best 13.37 to re-qualify for the event at BIG EAST. She also placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.02 seconds to qualify for BIG EAST for the first time. Six WVU athletes competed in the 800-meter run as sophomore Jenna Barreto led the charge with a 16th-place finish in 2:16.11. Josie Crouch placed 19th in 2:16.91, while Sarah Martinelli came in 20th in 2:17.37, a personal-best mark. Freshman Kelly Williams placed 23rd in 2:18.54, with Letitia Propst following in 25th in 2:19.00. Hallie Portner also earned a career-best time of 2:20.72, overcoming her previous best of 2:23.31 to place 28th in the field. The 4x100 relay squad of Townsend, Carrier-Eades, Shakiyla Cosby and Nesbit had a strong finish of fifth place in 47.32. Sydney Cummings came in second place in the high jump at a height of 1.65 meters, while Meghan Mock placed seventh in the long jump at 5.71 meters to re-qualify. In the pole vault, Katlyn Shelar placed fifth at a re-qualifying 3.70 meters, while Heather Adams placed 10th in the hammer throw at 53.02 meters, just shy of her 53.29-meter personal record.
