Rifle: Trio Represents WVU at World Cup
Nicco Campriani, the 2011 NCAA air rifle champion and a National Rifle Association first team All-American, finished sixth in the men’s 10m air rifle on April 21 with a total of 699.4. The Florence, Italy, native shot 597 in the open relay and 102.4 in the finals. Shooting for the Italian National Team, Campriani also finished 33rd in the men’s 50m rifle prone competition today with a 586 score. Campriani has already qualified for the London 2012 Summer Olympics. Sixth-year Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond bested his former pupil today, finishing 11th with a score of 591. Hammond, an Aberdeen, Scotland, native and shooting for Great Britain, is still in play for a bid to the London Games. Also of note, former Mountaineer All-American Eric Uptagrafft, the 1993 smallbore NCAA champion, finished sixth in today’s competition with a score of 696.3. Uptagrafft shot 592 in the open relay and 104.3 in the finals. A member of the United States National Team, he competed at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics and has already qualified for this summer’s Games. Freshman Amy Bock is scheduled to compete in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position competition tomorrow. |
