MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team honored multiple Mountaineers at its 2011-12 Go West Virginia Gala team banquet, held tonight, at Touchdown Terrace at Milan Puskar Football Stadium.

Second-year coach Jill Kramer presented sophomore Liz Gulick with the Academic Achievement Award, senior Abby Monson with the Achievement, Effort, Attitude Award, senior Serinna Russo with the Tough as Nails Award and junior Karly Rasmussen with the Be a Mountaineer Award. MacKenzie Keenan was also honored with the Manger Award.

Gulick was also recently honored with the inaugural WVU Female Student-Athlete Community Service Outreach Award. The Wheaton, Ill., native competed in 44 sets for the Mountaineers as a defensive specialist and finished the season with 52 digs and two service aces.

Monson concluded her four-year career this past fall after playing in every set and match for WVU in 2011. Monson finished her career with 85 kills, 29 digs and 61 blocks. The middle blocker is a member of the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and a BIG EAST Academic All-Star. Monson was recently named a 2012 WVU Foundation Outstanding Senior and will graduate with a 3.87 GPA before beginning graduate school this fall at WVU.

After transferring from Concordia-Irvine, Russo made an immediate impact for the Mountaineers in her two seasons. Russo moved to the libero position for the 2011 season and finished No. 7 in the nation and No. 2 in the BIG EAST in digs per set with 5.82. The Riverside, Calif., native is No. 1 and No. 3 in the WVU record book for digs per set in a single season (5.82) and digs in a single season (530), respectively. Russo is also a member of the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and a BIG EAST Academic All-Star. She will graduate in May.

Rasmussen has been a vocal leader on the bench for the Mountaineers the past three seasons. The setter and defensive specialist stepped in and ran the offense five times for WVU this past fall and had a career-high three assists against DePaul. Rasmussen is a member of the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll and is a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
