Rifle: Campriani Wins Gold in Milan
The Florence, Italy, native shot a near-perfect 599 in the open relay and 103.7 in the finals to claim his second Gold medal in as many World Cups with a final score of 702.7. Campriani finished first in the men’s rifle 3 position at the London ISSF World Cup on April 28. “Nicco had an excellent result today,” says Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond. “He proved today that he is one of the best and most consistent shooters in the world. I’m sure it was nice for him to win on his home turf. Whatever he did to prepare for today’s match should give him a great confidence boost.” Campriani, a National Rifle Association (NRA) first team All-American, is building momentum as he marches toward the 2012 London Summer Olympics. The reigning air rifle world champion, a title he claimed in 2010, he also won the NCAA air rifle championship in 2011. Rising Mountaineer senior Petra Zublasing, the reigning NCAA air rifle champion, finished with a final score of 393 in the women’s 10m air rifle competition. The NRA first team All-American also represented Italy in one of her final tune-ups for the London Games. Katrina Emmons of the Czech Republic won the women’s competition with a final score of 505.5. She shot a perfect 400 in the relay and 105.5 in the finals. A complete recap of the Milan ISSF World Cup will be provided on Monday, May 21. |
