Track: Ten Qualify for NCAA East Regional
WVU will be represented by Jordan Hamric, Jessica O’Connell, Stephanie Caruso, Chelsea Carrier-Eades, Chené Townsend, Sydney Cummings, Katlyn Shelar, Stormy Nesbit, Meghan Mock and Terina Miller. “We are pleased with the group that was selected to represent the university for the NCAA Championships,” says WVU coach Sean Cleary. “A few new names were added to the list of recent qualifiers. These girls are among the cream of the crop. It will be exciting to see how the next few weeks unfold.” The top 48 athletes with the best times or distances for each event were selected to compete in the regional with hopes of advancing to the championship rounds scheduled from June 6-9 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Hamric had the 40th-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with the 10:38.71 she earned at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational. O’Connell advanced by way of her 16:33.13 in the 5,000-meter run at the BIG EAST Championships, the 31st-best time in the East region. Caruso advances to the regional in the 10,000-meter run from her 35:05.60 (32nd best) achieved at the Stanford Invitational, while Cummings earned her way with her 1.75-meter high jumps accomplished from several meets from the outdoor season. Carrier-Eades and Nesbit will both compete in a pair of events, with Carrier-Eades in the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump and Nesbit in the long jump and triple jump. Carrier-Eades owns the fifth-best time in the 100 hurdles with the 12.93 earned at the BIG EAST meet, and the 19th-best distance in the long jump with her 6.27-meter jump from BIG EAST. Nesbit has the eighth-best distance in the triple jump from her school-record 13.07-meter jump at the ECAC Championships last weekend, while her 6.08-meter long jump from the BIG EAST meet ranks 36th-best in the region. Terina Miller earned her way in the hammer throw with a 55.25-meter throw at the Raleigh Relays, while Meghan Mock advanced via her 6.07-meter jump at the BIG EAST Championships. Katlyn Shelar had the 32nd-best height in the pole vault at 3.95 meters from the Wake Forest Open.
