Rifle: Zublasing Named Academic All-America
A native of Appiano, Italy, Zublasing, an all-district II at-large women’s first team honoree, is honored following a stellar junior year that not only saw her win a national championship but also earn National Rifle Association smallbore and air rifle first team All-America honors. “This is a great honor for Petra,” says Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond. “The team has consistently placed at least one student-athlete on an academic All-America team over the last few years, and I’m happy Petra was able to continue that streak. Hopefully next year she can advance and earn first team recognition.” Zublasing owns a 3.85 grade point average in civil engineering. She is the second Mountaineer shooter in three seasons named to the second team, as Andy Lamson scored the honor in 2010 and 2011. Additionally, Nicco Campriani, the 2011 NCAA air rifle champion, was named to the first team last year. The 2012 Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Shooter of the Year, Zublasing won the conference air rifle and combined score titles at the GARC Championships. She led the Mountaineers in both disciplines with air rifle and smallbore season averages of 596.2 and 586.8, respectively. Additionally, Zublasing shot a school-record 600 air rifle in a win over Army on Oct. 22, becoming the first female NCAA shooter to earn the perfect score. A two-time member of the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Academic Team and a two-time Dean’s List honoree, Zublasing is currently training with the Italian National Team in preparation for the 2012 London Summer Olympics. |
